There’s nothing like an opportunity to dress to the nines to spark a romantic staycation! The Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association‘s Annual Gala was last weekend, and my client Hotel Colorado won Business of the Year. Plenty of reasons to celebrate, so I booked a room for an early Valentine’s Day night out with my Valentine.
Glenwood Springs, Colorado, is just 20 minutes away, and we lived there for 13 years. Even though we go there regularly, it’s still fun to play tourist. We started with lunch at Smoke Modern BBQ, our favorite barbecue joint in the area. Since we’re from Kansas City, we are barbecue snobs. This place is the bomb.
Next, we headed next door to the Casey Brewing and Blending Taproom. This company has had a cult following for years and years, and only recently opened a downtown tasting room. I’m a sucker for sours, and we love supporting local small businesses, so we go here whenever we get the chance. You should, too. We also carry a few of their products in our store.
Our room at Hotel Colorado was fabulous. They’re finalizing an $8-million floor-to-ceiling guest room renovation, so everything is shiny and new while still keeping true to its Italian villa heritage. I won’t gush anymore since they’re a client, but we loved our stay. Especially the yummy breakfast the next morning!
The chamber gala was themed as an ’80s prom, but we weren’t feeling it and just dressed in our cocktail finest. It was so fun connecting with a LOT of friends, dancing to ’80s music, watching the awards ceremony and nibbling on the appetizers. Our February romantic getaway was a success!

What a fabulous “getaway” staycation! And even better that Hotel Colorado won a major award. I can’t wait to check out the renovation. We’ve been staying at the hotel for years (up until 2020), so we have a long history with the place. And with Glenwood!
